Site Surveys
Signal Surveys for Public Safety & Cellular Coverage
Signal surveys identify coverage problem areas inside your building and provide essential data for designing effective Distributed Antenna System (DAS) solutions. These surveys help avoid unnecessary installations, reduce costs, and improve system performance.
What We Do
Radio Communications of Charleston, Inc. conducts comprehensive walk tests (also called grid tests) using advanced wireless scanning equipment. Our engineers record thousands of data points to assess:
- Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)
- Bit Error Rate (BER)
- Signal-to-Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR)
These metrics help establish a baseline of RF, cellular, and broadband signal strength and coverage throughout the building.
Survey Process & Reporting
We use data collected from both internal and external network sources to generate a detailed analysis and recommendation report. This report may include:
- The need for signal enhancement via a DAS
- Recommended donor antenna locations
- Headend and power equipment placement
- Infrastructure planning (fiber, cabling, etc.)
Evaluation Factors During a DAS Site Survey
- Spectrum analysis of required frequencies
- Propagation variables and signal behavior
- Unamplified RF measurements (RF noise floor, donor signal strength)
- Identification of RF inhibitors (terrain, structure, materials)
- Donor signal sources (radio and cell towers)
Deliverables
- Visual signal coverage maps
- Frequency-specific signal strength graphs
- Summary of current signal conditions
- Clear path to resolution—signal boosters or DAS installation
Our goal is to provide precise, actionable data to help you make informed decisions on wireless communication system improvements.
